Higher Todd Classes and Holomorphic Group Actions
This paper attempts to provide an analogue of the Novikov conjecture for algebraic (or Kähler) manifolds. Inter alia, we prove a conjecture of Rosenberg’s on the birational invariance of higher Todd genera. We argue that in the algebraic geometric setting the Novikov philosophy naturally includes non-birational mappings.
متن کاملSignatures and Higher Signatures of S-quotients
We define and study the signature and higher signatures of the quotient space of an S-action on a closed oriented manifold.
متن کاملGroup Actions and Group Extensions
In this paper we study finite group extensions represented by special cohomology classes. As an application, we obtain some restrictions on finite groups which can act freely on a product of spheres or on a product of real projective spaces. In particular, we prove that if (Z/p)r acts freely on (S1)k , then r ≤ k.
متن کاملElliptic Operators and Higher Signatures
Building on the theory of elliptic operators, we give a unified treatment of the following topics: • the problem of homotopy invariance of Novikov’s higher signatures on closed manifolds; • the problem of cut-and-paste invariance of Novikov’s higher signatures on closed manifolds; • the problem of defining higher signatures on manifolds with boundary and proving their homotopy invariance.
متن کاملGroup Signatures
In this paper we present a new type of signature for a group of persons, called a group signature, which has the following propertjes: (i) only members of the group can sign messages; (ii) the receiver can verify that it is a valid group signaa~e, but cannot discover which gr~up member made (i) if necessary, the signature can be "opened", so that the person who signed the message is revealed. i...
